Nellie Jane Judd (1883-1975) was the daughter of Edward and Frances Elizabeth Judd. Born in the Sleepy Hollow section of West Avon, Nellie married Harlan Whitman Woodford about 1904. She was a member of the West Avon Congregational Church. Frank Hadsell described his popular brothers in his diary in 1900. “Clinton was now 29 and Will was 25. Unlike myself, they were constantly on the go - hunting, fishing, camping, taking girls to all sorts of parties and dances within a radius of several miles of Avon. Coming home night after night at 12, 1, or 2 o’clock. No wonder they did not like to do anything at home. I did not approve of this, but said nothing as it would do no good.” Photographer unidentified. Original title in CBH’s list for photograph #075: “N-J and CBH.” Original title on his paper sleeve for photograph # 075: “N.J. & CBH, July 1, 1900.” Source: Nellie Woodford’s obituary in The Hartford Courant, September 27, 1975, p. 15A.
