    Mr. Samuel S. Cowles

    [to right of fold]

    My Dear Brother,

The enclosed came this afternoon. Aunt will probably receive a letter from father tomorrow, but still she thinks you had better inquire at the Post Office as you come up here tomorrow evening, as there is a base possibility of there being one for you.

On putting my clothes into the carpet-bag, I find they take up so little room that they will not go well so, and I think there is quite room for all you would wish to carry. If you could bring yours up here or send them, it would be much more convenient to have only one article of baggage.

I am endeavoring to compose and prepare myself, as much as possible for the scenes of next week. May God support us through all the trials that are to come.

    Yours as ever,

    Charlotte.
