Title supplied by cataloger. Illustration from Scientific American, October 9, 1897. The original dam was built in 1889. The power plant, known as the Rainbow or Poquonock Plant, was constructed in 1890 and began operation in 1891. It was used to generate electrical power for the city of Hartford until 1916.
