Description |
Description
Bird's-eye view of a small industrial town located on the Quinebaug River. The large factory in the foreground is W.A. Slater's Jewett City Cotton Mills. The Ashland Cotton Co. Mills are beside Ashland Pond at the far right. Railroad tracks run along the river. Commercial buildings line Main Street. Houses with outbuildings and multiple family dwellings are located throughout the town. Churches include Methodist Episcopal, Congregational, Baptist, and Roman Catholic churches. A small cemetery is in a grassy field near the river. To the right, in the same field is what appears to be a baseball diamond. Trees dot the hills in the background.
