Show moreSheet with three sketches of a detail of a stone and metal sculpture by Elbert Weinberg entitled Picasso-Athena the Bright-Eyed Goddess. All three sketches show the triangular stone head of the figure. The lower sketch also includes part of the metal armature and an oversized spear. A photograph of the sculpture appears to have been taken in the interior of a studio, probably the studio of the sculptor in the former Colt Firearms factory building in Hartford. The sculpture was probably made in the mid-1980s and the drawing presumably was made about the same time. Athena, the Greek goddess of war and wisdom, was usually depicted holding a spear and shield. The reference to Picasso may refer to the somewhat cubist style of the work. Show less
