The Bethel Ledger is from Barnum's time as a shopkeeper in Bethel, CT, as well as from his time running the American Museum. The first part of the ledger shows the business transactions of Barnum's store in Bethel, and is deeply detailed. The accounts for the American Museum are equally detailed, and include information on insurance policies, the museum's menagerie, and correspondence, in addition to pasted in receipts and the like. The ledger demonstrates how Barnum kept records and how they differed between the types of businesses he ran. Measures 10 by 15.5 in with depth of 2 inches. Show less
