PFC Wilbert D. Scanlon, who was serving with a Field Artillery Battalion, was killed in action in France on November 11, 1944. -- Technical Sergeant Michael B. Dubiel of the Army died from wounds received in action on January in Belgium. -- Received the Presidential Unit Citation. -- Took part in the invasions in Normandy, Holland, and Belgium.


Pvt. Raymond L. Robertson who was reported missing in action since October 15>th is now reported a prisoner of war in Germany.


The Avon Branch of the Red Cross Home Service office was open in the Avon Library every Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 to help service men and their families. - A telephone was installed under “American Red Cross”


Townspeople gave 62 pints of blood in November.


The 6>th War Loan oversubscribed by a substantial margin (no figures given).


St. Ann’s Parish celebrated its 25>th anniversary.


The Congregational Church celebrated its 125>th anniversary.


There was commotion in town over getting a Visiting Nurse.


The Avon Canteen served refreshments monthly at Old Farms Hospital.


Pvt. Earl Carini received the Purple Heart.


Pvt. Louis Migli received the Infantryman’s Combat Badge.


Cpl. Clifford Rodgers was awarded the Infantryman’s Combat Badge.


Cpl. Henry Seger was promoted to Corporal on October 18>th.


Sgt. Raymond Zacchera was stationed at the Old Farms Convalescent Hospital in Avon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three stars; received the American Theater Ribbon; received the American Defense Ribbon; received the Good Conduct Ribbon; received the Infantryman’s Combat Badge


Sgt. Mary Gerchman was promoted to Sergeant.


Joseph Alsop, Jr. of the 14>th Air Force and Stewart Alsop of the OSS had been promoted to the rank of Captain.


Cpl. Paul Plona of the Marines received his Purple Heart for wounds receive in the Central Pacific on July 21>st (Image Included).


Sgt. Sgt. Ray Zacchera was awarded his Infantryman’s Combat Badge at an Army Camp in the United States upon his return (Image Included).


Captain John H. Gibbon, U.S. Navy, retired, had passed away. Services were held in the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C., followed by interment in Arlington National Cemetery.


David Stuart had been promoted to Corporal.


Pvt. Casimir Plona was killed in action in Italy on October 31>st.
