This home on East Main Street belonged to George W. And Jennie B. Smith. It was very near the home of Clinton Hadsell (Frank Hadsell’s brother) home and possibly adjacent. See Clinton Hadsell collection, 168 A & B, for one of Clinton Hadsell’s rare portraits of an individual child: Charles L. Smith was born about 1910 in Avon, and lived on West Main Street very near Clinton Hadsell’s home. The census taker in 1910 visited the Smith family, and the next household on the list was Clinton Hadsell’s. Jane Hadsell is listed as the next head of household on the list. Captioned by Nora Howard, Avon Town Historian, Summer 2020. Sources: as noted and from online sources such as ancestry.com; the US Census, wikipedia, and pertinent websites. Also see Nora Howard’s essay on the Hadsell Family (also posted on Ct. Digital Archive). These captions were completed the summer of 2020 (except as noted) and the library was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
