Description
Wooden bridge with windows and stone abutments and central pier reinforced with wooden support beams. Logs line either side of the entrance. A wooden handwritten sign above the entrance to the left reads: “2 pigs for sale.” Advertisements are posted on either side of the entrance and on the right interior wall. One large poster advertises a circus in Danbury on July 27. Inscribed on photo: "Gaylordsville Bridge." This covered bridge was built over the Housatonic River in 1876 to replace the covered bridge that had been washed away in the spring of 1854. It was replaced by a steel bridge in 1926.
