Between September 1941 and March 1942, over sixty employees of Sage Allen and Company participated in American Red Cross first aid training courses. In March, a ceremony was held recognizing them as Hartford's First Aid Detachment of the American Red Cross. The store also converted fourteen delivery trucks into emergency ambulances, and each truck received a special license plate.
