Description
Letter from Horace Greeley to friend Barnum, dated May 27, 1867. It asks P.T. Barnum to pass a letter along to Arthur Greenwood, Barnum’s right hand man at Barnum’s American Museum. The letter is written on letterhead that reads Office of the Tribune, meaning the New-York tribune. Horache Greeley (February 3, 1811 – November 29, 1872) was the founder and editor of the New-York Tribune, politician, and friend of P.T. Barnum's. P.T. Barnum wrote a large number of letters in his time, and as a public figure, received many in return. These manuscripts offer insight into his personal life via correspondence with friends and family, his business interests including the American Museum and the circus, and his personality. The various correspondents demonstrate how vast his social circle was, and the space he occupied as a public figure during his own lifetime.
