Show moreView of the southwest face of the Civil War Soldiers' Monument, East Main Street and Broadway, Mystic. The monument is surmounted by the statue of a soldier standing next to his rifle, which rests on the ground. He holds the barrel of the rifle with both hands. Carved on the base below are a wreath, then the word "ANTIETAM," a state seal, and an inscription that reads: "DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE SONS OF/ MYSTIC WHO OFFERED THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR/ COUNTRY,/ IN THE WAR OF THE REBELLION./ 1861, [sic] - 1865. An iron fence encircles the monument. Houses can be seen in the background. Show less
