Description
Mystic River bridge, before 1901, looking west. The schooner Silas Dodge of Block Island can be seen in the left background, and beyond it, houses and other structures on the Groton side. The steeple of Union Baptist Church is visible in the center background. Portersville Academy can be seen just to the right of the schooner's sail. A carriage is crossing the bridge. The wooden abutments onto which the bridge swings can be seen on the right and left. Overhead is a sign reading "WALK YOUR HORSES". Beyond the bridge storefronts on West Main Street in downtown Mystic are visible.
