Description
Matted page of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper for July 22, 1864 with two illustrations. The top image features P.T. Barnum sitting at his desk. In his right hand he holds a pen, and a pad of paper is just under his hand. He looks directly at the viewer. The rest of his office is behind him. In between the two illustrations, there is text on different topics. The bottom image features Lindencroft, Barnum's second home. A large American flag flies overhead, and a horse and carriage sit on the driveway. Lindencroft was P.T. Barnum's second family home from about 1860-1869, built in the Italianate style by A.G. Tallmadge. Barnum lived there with his wife Charity and their youngest daughter, Pauline, about 1000 yards away from where Barnum's former home, Iranistan once stood. It was used by the family until their future home, Waldemere was completed. The Bassick family purchased Lindencroft; it was remodeled and updated over the years, but was eventually demolished to make way for Bassick High School in 1924. Frank Leslie's Newspaper. July 22, 1864.
