Description
Large brick building with rectangular barred windows and a forked dirt driveway lined with white stones placed at regular intervals. Two vines creep up the side of the jail facing the road. An open covered porch on the left has a sign above the doorway reading “Office” and a wooden sign posted on the grass beside the jail warns: “Use driveway. Keep off the lawn." A stone fence can be seen in the distance on the left and a small wooden building can be partially seen behind the jail on the right. This building was erected in 1896 or 1897 along U.S. Route 6 in Brooklyn not far from the center of town and was used until 1993. It was part of a 385 acre farm which furnished employment for most of the male inmates year round. The Jail√¢‚Ǩ‚'s name was changed to the Brooklyn Community Correctional Center in the late 1960s.
