Bust length studio portrait of a bearded man identified as John M. Allyn. Printed in gold at bottom "KENYON & SON,/ 4 BANK STREET,/ NEW LONDON, CONN. An obituary cut from newspaper and glued to the back reads: "THE TOMB./ ALLYN - At Mystic Bridge March 29, John M./ Allyn, aged 59 years 6 months/ - John H. Allen [sic] a well known and/ greatly respected resident of Mystic Bridge/ died quite suddenly of pleuro-pneumonia/ last Tuesday morning. Mr. Allen [sic] was by/ profession a tuner of musical instruments/ and we believe was the first person to man-/ ufacture a piano in the state of California./ His funeral was solemnized Thursday, the/ body being taken to Gales Ferry for burial. Handwritten in pencil "1887".
