Description
Bird's-eye view of a seaport on Long Island Sound. The steamer Stonington is at the docks of the Stonington Steamship Co. in the left foreground. The depot of the New York, Providence and Boston Railroad Company is nearby. Other steamboats and sailing vessels are at other wharves along the waterfront and on the sound and in the harbor. Hotels include the Wadawanuck House on High Street, Ocean House, and the Steamboat Hotel. Industrial buildings include the Stone Factory, A.B. Miller's Iron Foundry, and L.H. Lamb's Sash and Blind Factory. Houses and commercial buildings line Water Street. Houses and churches line other streets in town. A small lighthouse is located at the end of the point. Some large houses with outbuildings are located in the countryside north of town.
