Description |
Description
Stone mansion of two and a half stories in Georgian style with Doric porch and attic dormer windows. Erroneously referred to on the photograph verso as a copy of the home of John Winthrop "built of stone in 1646", New London Historical Society states that this is the Winthrop Lewis house, built in 1752-1754 and torn down and replaced in 1892 by the Winthrop School. The house was near the site of the original Winthrop House built in 1648.
