Description
Black and white photograph showing a large ship covered with a semi-rigid "roof". From a notation on the back of the photograph, the ship is called the "Charles Cooper" and a smaller ship called the "Actaeon" is by her side. The "Charles Cooper" was built by William Hall of Black Rock in 1856. It was a packet ship running on a fixed schedule rather than only when full. It could have carried 250 people and 3,500 barrels of cargo. After a tough voyage in 1866, the ship was found to be unseaworthy and never again left Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands.
