A dump truck can be seen in a cleared area in the foreground. Storefronts are visible on the south side of Congress Avenue. Businesses include (from left to right) a restaurant and a shop advertising sales of bicycles, toys, auto supplies and baby furniture. Lou's Army & Navy Stores can be seen on the northeast corner of the intersection with Commerce Street. Billboards advertising Canada Dry soda and a Chevrolet truck are visible above the store. The Congress Square building can be seen farther up the street near the intersection of Congress with George Street, a block beyond Commerce. To the right, United Supermarket is visible on the southeast corner of the Congress Avenue-Commerce Street intersection. The First New Haven National Bank building can be seen in the center background.
