Description
Bird's-eye view of a small industrial town located on the Farmington River. Several bridges, including iron bridges and a covered bridge, cross the river. Several milldams are visible. A number of small factories are located on the bank of the river. These include H. Chapin's Son (manufacturer of rules, planes, etc.), Chapin Machine Manufacturing Co., D.B. Smith & Co. (manufacturer of cotton duck), and G.W. Bankcroft's Broom Manufactory. The Connecticut Western Railroad crosses a small body of water on a trestle. Commercial buildings line Main Street. Houses with outbuildings and churches of different denominations are scattered throughout the town, on both sides of the river. Green, tree-covered hills are in the background. A separate vignette shows Greenwood Company's Mills.
