Description
Holding a palm of martyrdom and the sword with which she was beheaded, Saint Catherine of Alexandria tramples the Roman emperor Maxentius whose plans Catherine had repeatedly foiled. The saint is represented against a round-arched niche decorated with colored marbles and a green shell-motif, which evokes the Renaissance taste for ancient Roman architecture. LAAM Purchase
