Description
Bird's-eye view of a large city located where the Yantic River joins the Shetucket River to form the Thames River. The tracks of the Norwich and Worcester Railroad run along the river in the foreground. The tracks of the New London, Willimantic and Palmer Railroad run along the far shore. Steamboats and sailing vessels are on the rivers. Several bridges, including iron bridges, cross the rivers. One of these is the Laurel Hill Bridge, leading to Laurel Hill in the foreground. Houses, churches, and commercial buildings line the city streets. There are wooded hills and several small ponds near the center of town. Factories depicted in separate vignettes include the Norwich Lock Manufacturing Co. and the Norwich Bleaching and Calendering Co. Other vignettes show the Court House, the First National Bank, and Hislop, Porteus & Mitchell, clothiers.
