Description
Bird's-eye view of a small mill town. The brick factory buildings of the Cheney Brothers Silk Manufacturing Company are scattered throughout the west (left) side of town and along the banks of Hop Brook in the foreground. A private railroad line at the upper left leads to freight yards and a small station. The brick Victorian style community center, Cheney Hall, is nearby. The houses of the Cheney family, surrounded by grassy lawns, are on the right. The Cheney Store is located on Main Street, at the far right. Other houses, including workers' houses, line the streets. Elsewhere in town are the Cheney Brothers farm buildings and gas works. Vignettes depict Cheney Hall and W.H. Cheney's store.
