Description
Booklet produced by the Bethel Land Trust to announce the opening of P.T. Barnum's Ivy Island to the public, during the towns sesquicentennial, to be celebrated from July 9, 2005 through July 17, 2005. Ivy Island was once owned by P.T. Barnum and was used as collateral so that he could purchase what would become his American Museum in New York City. The booklet has excerpts from Barnum's 1855 autobiography, as well as information pertaining to the creation and animal inhabits of the island. Pictures included in the booklet show a portrait of Barnum's maternal grandfather, Phineas Taylor, who he was named after, the original deed to the island, Barnum's American Museum as well as maps showing the layout of the island. Also included is a reprint of the article found in the News Times that detailed the donation of this land by Dolores R. Walters to the Bethel Land Trust in 1996. From the P.T. Barnum Permanent Exhibit at the Bethel Public Library, donated by Laurence Gibson and Cynthia NeJame.
