This issue of Contact from October, 1976 features a report on the first “Day of Pride” event on campus, which honored three of UConn’s black alumni. Also included is an article examining student dismissal rates by the Federation of Puerto Rican Students, information about the Black Freshman Student Union, and a report on the National March for Human Rights and Labor Rights. The issue contains accounts of musical performances by Natalie Cole and Norman Connors, pieces of short fiction by Frank Wynn and Fatima El-Mohammed, and poetry by J.V. Powar and Dalit Panther. There are lists of upcoming events offered by the Center for Personal Growth, the Crescent House, the Afro-American Cultural Center, and the Third World Student Union. In addition, there is an article about civil rights activist Dr. James Earl Grant, and an account of storyteller Brother Blue’s visit to a children’s literature class. Concerning international news, there is an article reflecting on the death of Chairman Mao, news of the conflict in Lebanon, and a piece on racial violence in South Africa.
