Description
Photographic image of "Bridgeport's Great Historical Mural" taken in sections with a digital camera and knitted together to represent the entire mural as it appears in the library using photo editing software, including artificial intelligence.
"Bridgeport's Great Historical Mural" was painted by renowned local artist Bernard "Bud" Riley from the mid-1970s into the 1980s. The mural hangs on a large, north facing wall, second floor, center room in the Burroughs-Saden Library, the central library in the Bridgeport, Connecticut system located at 925 Broad Street. The mural depicts many people, buildings, scenes and events that represent Bridgeport's history over the years. Thematically, the mural covers a century of Bridgeport's history (1836-1936) and was drawn on linen mounted on a wall and features sepia acrylic brushed over line drawings. Viewers will detect famous figures such as the City's first mayor, Isaac Sherman and 20th Century Mayor Jasper McLevy. Abraham Lincoln, Charles Dickens, and P.T. Barnum along with buildings such as the Octagon House and City Hall also make an appearance. Riley even includes the Metropolitan Body Truck made famous by the Carlson Brothers and early aviator Gustave Whitehead's plane. |
