Description
White wooden bridge with iron railings near entrance and separate pedestrian walkways on either side. Right interior wall used for advertisements; one poster reads “... Winsted, June ...” The year 1859 is painted above the entrance. Photograph of a photograph. Some lines on roof and entranceways and around 1859 date were inked on original photograph. Online photograph has been cropped.This covered bridge on South Main Street was built over the Farmington River in 1859 and replaced in 1922. The photograph was taken after the bridge's original arched portals were squared off to accommodate the higher loads of motor trucks.
