Description
View of water being sprayed on rows of in an East Hartford field, May(?) 1964. View is looking along a pipe that runs between one of the rows at center, with the sprinklers visible at intervals. The backs of commercial buildings with signs for Stop & Shop, Woolworth's and J.M. Fields can be seen in the background. Date stamped on reverse is July 8, 1964, but "May" is written on the reverse as well, and the caption on another photograph of the same field (hpl_hhc_ht_b003_f02_43-44), but with crops apparently fully-grown, refers to irrigation having been needed in May. Caption clipping on reverse of this photograph is torn, and some text is missing but reads in part: "...Acreage is between Wilbur Cross Pkwy. and the J.M. Fields department store in East Hartford, and today, thanks to man's efforts, fields are covered with carrots.". Written on reverse: "Farm", "May", "Before".
