Description
"It Happened to Jane" was a 1959 Eastmancolor romantic comedy film starring Doris Day, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs. The premise of the story is the conflict between a Maine lobster business owner and the owner of a railroad, the fictional Eastern & Portland Railroad, in transporting lobsters via the railroad. The business owner takes hostage one of the railroad company's trains, the "Old 97." The train used for the film was New Haven Railroad's 2-8-2 steam locomotive 3016. Much of the film was shot in Chester, Connecticut, in the Spring and Summer of 1958. This file was compiled by the New Haven Railroad in its negotiations and during the course of the film and the film company's use of the locomotive. The film was originally going to be titled "Miss Casey Jones" and many of the documents in the file refer to the film by that title.
