Description
Wooden bridge with open, lattice-work sides and separate pedestrian walkway. Six wire cables are attached to the bridge just below the roof. Sign over the entrance reads: “The riding or driving any horses, autos, or carriages on this bridge in a gait faster than a walk is by law prohibited.” Another sign, posted on both sides of the entrance and on the left interior wall, warns “post no bills.” A Conn. 67 route marker is beside the sidewalk near the bridge and a sign posted to the right of the bridge's entrance warns travelers of an eight ton load limit. Part of a store window displaying magazines can been seen on the right; one title reads “Flying aces.” Photograph of a photograph. Online photograph has been cropped. The Seymour covered bridge was built in 1856 over the Naugatuck River at Bank Street. It was replaced in 1936 by a concrete bridge. Typewritten note attached to back of photo incorrectly identifies river as the Housatonic.
