Alexander C. Twining was born on July 5, 1801, and died on November 22, 1884, both in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a scientist, inventor, and civil engineer. From 1835 to 1837 he was chief surveyor for the Hartford and New Haven Railroad and other railroads that ran to or through New Haven. This folder consists of writings and surveys by Twining, principally for the Hartford and New Haven Railroad.
