Description
Bird's-eye view of a town on the Connecticut River. Sailboats and steamboats are on the river. A ferryboat is departing from Goodspeed’s Landing. The Connecticut Valley Railroad is in the bottom left corner. Industrial buildings include the factories of Luther Boardman & Son, Brittania Ware and Nickel Silver Factory, W.J. Squire, Manufacturer of Gill Netting, Jas. S. Ray, Coffin Trimmings Manufactory, W.J. Gates, Carriage Manufactory and general Blacksmithing, and W.H. Hauden, Drain Tile and Sewer Pipe Manufactory. Prominent buildings on Main Street include Swan Bros. Livery and Sale Stable, Goodspeed’s Opera House and Store, the Maplewood Music Seminary, the Champion House, and the Public School. The only church is St. Stephens Episcopal Church and Rectory. Vignettes bordering the bottom of the scene include the Champion House, the Goodspeed Opera House, Store, and residence, the Gelston House, the residence of W.C. Reynolds, the residence of Christopher Tyler, L. Boardman & Son Nickel and Silver Works, L. Boardman & Son Brittania Ware Manufactories, and the Maplewood Music Seminary.
