Standing in a chariot at the lower right, the muscle-bound Hercules ascends skyward to become a god, rewarded for his valor, strength, and labors. This drawing shows Hercules guided by Mercury with Fame blowing a trumpet above. In the clouds at left sit Neptune (with his trident), Jupiter (with his eagle), and Juno beside him. Jupiter holds out his hand, beckoning his son upward. Lyman Allyn Art Museum purchase (Peter Claas, London)
