Description
This silver ring is possibly an example of proto-money that was used for exchange prior to the use of coins in Europe. The nobbed “Celtic ring” was found in former Yugoslavia. The ring weighs 2.2 g and the is 14 mm in diameter. In recent years, the use of such rings as money has been brought into question. They may simply be bridle parts, strap fittings or even portions of a spindle whorl, and could date into the Roman period.
