Dr. Martin Luther King visited the City of Bridgeport on several occasions. His death was widely mourned in the city. The following lists the date of his visit, the date of the article, the title of the article, and which newspaper it was in: On 13 March 1961, Dr. King visited the University of Bridgeport. "Dr King Hits Race Bias on Bridgeport U Speech" was published on 14 March, 1961 in the Bridgeport Post. In June 1961, Dr. King was given an honorary degree from the University of Bridgeport, This is referenced in several post-assassination articles. On 15 January, 1962, Dr. King visited Central High School, sponsored by the NAACP Bridgeport and Stratford chapters. An article titled "Says Negros Must Fight Own Battles" was published on 21 January 1962 in the Sunday Herald. The next visit was on 11 March 1964 at the Klein Auditorum with an overflow at St. John's Episcopal. An article followed on 12 March 1964 titled "Dr. King Warns of Peril of Failure of Bill of Rights." It was published in the Bridgeport Post. In May of 1964 he visited Temple Israel in Westport. On 13 March 1966, Dr. King gave another speech at the Klein Memorial. An article was published on 14 March 1966 titled "Something is Missing...." and appeared in the Bridgeport Post.
